Don't know if Harvey Gerst (JBL employee and D130F designer) is still alive, but he used to post at that forum. What about listening, buying but not paying too much?Īlternatively, get the straight scoop from the folks at the link I original posted. If you have issues with your speakers, Please.
#Jbl serial number registry serial#
Is this a repainted orange-frame speaker? (potential red flag)Īll this said, the speaker basket/frame/magnet looks JBL, and if there's the right voice-coil & cone it should be a very good-sounding speaker. We assure you that there is no functional difference between the JBL Flip 6s that have different serial numbers. Orange frame D130F's came in later in production I don't know if JBL had a primer under the gray. And the D130F apparently put the terminal posts on a little tab, rather than on a frame leg (curious potential red flag) Extra set of terminal post holes on a frame leg is odd I don't see that on the D130 I have in one of my amps.Cone stamp on a real D130F would be "21057" this speaker has "210" then "5" backwards and no "7".Photos I've seen of gray-frame D130F's have "Fender P/N _" stamped in block letters on one of the frame legs. But if it's a D130F, the serial # dates to well after '68. According to the serial # registry at the site I linked, if this is a D130 the serial # dates to early 60's.Don't know if JBL ever stamped "F" on a D130 label to "get it out the door" in the absence of correct labels.Dome is oxidized indicating some age (so likely not a recent recone)
